And only Briar can bring him out alive Priest herself is quite the prose stylist, she often comes up with clever turns of phrase and lyrical descriptions. I’ve got mixed feelings about this one. Did anyone else notice that Briar and Zeke go for what amounts to two or three days without eating or drinking anything beyond a bit of water and a fig or was it a date? Good ideas get lost. An enjoyable read and looking forward to continuing the series. She is a single mother, living with her son Ezekial Zeke Wilkes.

At many points, I was reminded of computer games such as Half-Life 2 as well as paper role playing games, and I wonder, now, if Ms. I generally liked the book, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that the “Chinamen” were portrayed a bit un-PC. Sixteen years since boneshaoer machine ran amok in downtown Seattle, sinking the banks and offices into the caverns it tunnelled beneath them, but in the process releasing The Blight, a toxic gas that turns its victims into cannibal zombies.
My feelings are best conveyed by shrugging my shoulders. Eventually Oriest leads Zeke to her and Leviticus’ old home and tells Zeke that she killed Leviticus Blue years ago, as he tried to escape Seattle with his Boneshaker.
Annoyed me at the end, however. From there, I fell in love with the concept of a walled-in Seattle full of such dangers like the deadly Blight gas, rotters living deadand various communities who found a way to live in the unlivable city.

And since Washington is still a territory instead of a state, the US government wants nothing to do with this accident’s complicated and expensive clean-up; and so as a sloppy stop-gap measure, the residents of Seattle basically build a giant foot wall around downtown, turning the entire district into a yellow-haze-filled wasteland of wrecked Victorian parlors and the rotting chetie, along with a small community of gas-mask-wielding smugglers, criminals boneshaier other libertarians, who have carved out a hardscrabble existence for themselves through an ingenious series of underground tunnels and basement living spaces, filled with clean air from impossibly long tubes snaking over the walls and industrial-strength bellows run by sweaty Boneshker laborers.

As cherrie result, he “accidentally” released the blight from the ground and the world hasn’t been the same since. Cherie Priestcongratulations. The only bad comment is: These two and their plots are the heart and breath of the novel. While working through this reading list I got married, went on my honeymoon, switched career and became a father. What can I say about Boneshaker!

I dug the Rotters, but I wanted more rot, more zombie madness, and more exploration of their potential ability to communicate and problem solve. When I realized it was a zombie book, I knew I was in for a challenge. I’m a steampunkin’ Sky Pirate now. Oh wait, I get it. It’s hard to be sure whether Priest is deliberately blurring the details, but I spent a lot of time trying to work out what was happening when.

The bond between mother and son was a brittle, thin thing, but it was realistic for the characters and their history and the adventure of the novel definitely made them closer. She talked candidly about how Boneshaker with its great cover artwork revived her career. It might be more enjoyable for people who haven’t read a lot of pulp fiction, or those who love that style. Set up a giveaway. On the spur of the moment I set myself a challenge, to read every book to have won the Locus Sci-Fi award.
Zeke claims he doesn’t hold any grudge against his mother for killing her husband, and boneshamer embrace, before leaving to loot what is left of the former Blue residence.
